On the 8/16/2020 broadcast of the TOKYO FM radio program “Sugisaki Hana’s Flower TOKYO” (every Sunday from 8:00 to 8:30).
Sugisaki Hana introduced a message from a 12-year-old listener.
Sugisaki Hana: 12 years old, Yamagata Prefecture, radio name “I don’t like pickled plums”.
Listener email: Good morning, Ohana.
Sugisaki Hana: Good morning.
Listener email: On TV, they showed a rice variety called “Yukiwakamaru” from Yamagata Prefecture, but I love its sister rice variety called “Tsuyahime”.
I recently found out when I rewatched the DVD that the rice balls that Airi ate at Oto-chan’s house in “Hanayori” were “Tsuyahime”. I was so happy to see that rice from Yamagata Prefecture was featured on “Hanayori” that I emailed you.
Ohana, do you prefer firm or chewy rice?
Sugisaki Hana: Wow, that’s amazing! You’re particular about the variety of rice.
…Ah. But it’s certainly true. Especially in the Tohoku region, there’s a lot of rice produced.
I think you feel a certain attachment to rice that comes from your hometown.
Firm or chewy? Which is it?
I prefer chewy rice. I also like rice that’s a little “mushy.” Maybe because I like “porridge” and things like that…? I prefer softer rice.
…It’s true that a lot of the recipients are 12-year-olds. Come to think of it, a 12-year-old also sent one last time…
Wow, that makes me happy. Thank you.
