On the 8/9/2020 (Sun) broadcast of the TOKYO FM radio program “Sugisaki Hana’s Flower TOKYO” (every Sunday from 8:00 to 8:30).
In response to a question from a listener asking “Have you ever grinned recently?”, Sugisaki Hana talked about making natto rolls in the morning.
Sugisaki Hana: 21 years old, Osaka Prefecture, radio name “Mumumu”.
Listener email: Good morning, Ohana-chan.
Sugisaki Hana: Good morning.
Listener email: The other day, I was lying on the sofa in the living room with my eyes closed listening to “Flower TOKYO”, and after I finished listening, my mother told me, “You were grinning the whole time.”
She seemed to have been taking pictures secretly for fun, and when I showed them to her, I saw a picture of myself grinning with such happiness that it was a bit “gross!” from an objective point of view, but I realized that listening to this radio show is a really healing time.
Thank you for the fun broadcast every week.
Sugisaki Hana: I’m happy. Thank you.
Listener mail: Has there been anything that made you grin recently, Ohana-chan?
Sugisaki Hana: Oh man… you were listening to the show with a grin on your face (laughs).
I wonder if you’re grinning today too?
…you’re listening to the radio with your eyes closed.
But, it’s true. I also tend to close my eyes when I listen to the radio.
I wonder why that is? I wonder if I want to just enjoy the sound…?
I think I understand a little bit.
No. But it’s true, when your photo is taken unexpectedly… you see what’s in the picture and think, “Huh? That’s what my face was like!” It’s really embarrassing, isn’t it (laughs).
I wonder what “something that made you grin recently”…?
Hmm… Ah! There was (laughs).
Since I started living in Osaka, my mother and grandmother have been concerned about my health. They keep telling me to “eat natto,” “eat natto,” so I’m like, “I have to eat natto!”…I bought some natto the other day.
But, natto at home…it’s easy to eat if you prepare miso soup and rice properly, but I’ve been eating in the car on the way to the studio recently to get some sleep…So I thought, “I can’t spread it out like that.” Rice and natto…like that.
So I thought about what to do, and bought a “big piece of seaweed,” and sushi…what do you call it? I also bought ingredients to make “vinegared rice.” I wake up in the morning, “microwave” the frozen rice, make vinegared rice, and make natto rolls…I’ve been leaving the house lately (laughs).
When I’m making it, I grin a little.
“Now I can eat delicious natto rolls!” (laughs).
Just about a year ago, I mentioned on this show that I was “addicted to natto rolls”… and that’s right. I’ve been hooked ever since.
Hmm. Sour rice…slightly sweet rice and natto really go together.
But then, this morning, I started to laugh at myself for diligently eating natto rolls (lol).
That, too, made me grin. Yes (lol).
Radio name: “Mumumu”. Thank you for your message.
