On the September 6, 2020 (Sunday) broadcast of the TOKYO FM radio program “Sugisaki Hana’s Flower TOKYO” (every Sunday from 8:00 to 8:30).
Sugisaki Hana was responding to a listener’s message that “thanks to Sugisaki Hana, I’ve come to like natto.”
Sugisaki Hana: 19 years old, Hyogo Prefecture, radio name “Strawberry Jam.”
Listener email: Good morning, Ohana.
Sugisaki Hana: Good morning.
Listener email: The story of natto rolls that Ohana talked about before sounded so delicious that I decided to buy some natto at the supermarket, which I’ve never tried before, and try it.
Sugisaki Hana: Oh!
Listener email: Before eating it, I was a little regretful that I bought it because of the “unique smell,” but when I put it in my mouth thinking “Ohana eats it every morning,” I was hooked by how delicious it was.
Sugisaki Hana: Wow! That’s amazing (lol)!
Listener mail: Being from Kansai, my parents don’t like natto, so it was never on the dinner table and I’ve never had anything to do with it… but thanks to Ohana, I’ve gained one more happiness. Thank you.
Sugisaki Hana: I’m so happy. Amazing (lol).
Congratulations on overcoming your aversion to it without even trying it.
…Huh? Are there a lot of people in Kansai who don’t like natto?
Oh, really? Why is that? Is it not that familiar?
I guess it’s a Kanto thing after all… natto is a food?
…But I can certainly understand.
I also think it has a unique “smell”… I didn’t have many opportunities to eat it when I was little, but I think it tastes even better when it’s mixed with “vinegared rice.”
…I’ve said this about three times on this show (lol). I’m being persistent. Sorry (lol).
Lately I’ve been hooked on mixing natto with “Matsumae pickles” and making natto rolls… it’s so delicious.
It’s really sticky. Yes. It’s insanely delicious.
Some people also chop up “takuan” (pickled daikon radish) into small pieces and mix it in…that’s also really tasty.
I recommend it (lol). I guess it goes well with pickles after all…
When I eat natto, my intestines feel good, and it makes me think “I’ll do my best today too”…yes.
Thank you for your message, radio name “Strawberry Jam”.
