Hana Sugisaki talks about the “paludarium” she started during the self-restraint period

Hana Sugisaki's Flower TOKYO

On the 2020/7/26 (Sun) broadcast of the TOKYO FM radio program “Sugisaki Hana’s Flower TOKYO” (every Sunday from 8:00 to 8:30).

In response to a listener’s question “Are there any plants you are growing?”, Sugisaki Hana talked about “a potted plant that represents a tropical rainforest” (probably a type of paludarium) that she started growing during the self-isolation period.

*Paludarium is a word made up of palus, which means wetland or swamp in Latin, and arium.

A landscape that imitates a humid environment such as a tropical rainforest or cloud forest, created in a glass case or aquarium.

Sugisaki Hana: 20 years old from Hyogo Prefecture, radio name “Tax-free”.

…That’s a radio name that’s a bit of a plodding one (lol).

Listener email: Good morning. Nice to meet you.

Sugisaki Hana: Good morning.

Listener email: I’m a newcomer who started listening last week.

Sugisaki Hana: Oh. I’m so happy.
Thank you.

Listener mail: I’ve recently started growing morning glories due to a certain trigger. I haven’t grown morning glories since I was doing summer vacation homework in elementary school, so I’m looking forward to the day they bloom.

Here’s a question for Hana. Are you currently growing any plants?

Sugisaki Hana: I wonder what the “certain trigger” was? I’m really curious…
Morning glories…I definitely grew some when I was in elementary school. That blue…blue vase?
What can I call it? A pot?…I have fond memories of putting them in a pot and growing them together.

Hmm…I wonder what “plants I’m growing” are.
I’m not really sure about plants, but more like…houseplants? Something like that. I have one right in front of me right now…I brought it to Osaka. What can I call it?
You fill a round glass with lots of soil. Then you take the leaves that were already growing and…plant them yourself.
I also have some driftwood and stones….
I bought this online during the self-isolation period and I water it every day, and it’s in my room.

It also had some moss on it, but it’s difficult to grow and it died.
It was really cute… It’s a shame.

It was something like “Representing a tropical rainforest in your home”… Is that a bit witty?
…It is a bit witty (laughs). Yes. I am growing it.

Thank you for your message, radio name “Zenbunuki”.
