On the 5 July 2020 (Sun) broadcast of the TOKYO FM radio show “Sugisaki Hana’s Flower TOKYO” (every Sunday from 8:00 to 8:30). Sugisaki Hana talked about what she “started during the self-isolation period” based on messages from listeners.
Sugisaki Hana: 19 years old, Niigata Prefecture, radio name “Almost 20”. Listener email: Good morning, Hana. Sugisaki Hana: Good morning. Listener email: I always enjoy listening to your shows. Sugisaki Hana: Thank you. Listener email: I have a quick question. I’ll be turning 20 on July 3rd. Sugisaki Hana: Congratulations! Listener email: I’m thinking of buying a film camera and starting to “record my memories on film”, so please tell me if there’s anything you’ve “started doing” at this point. Sugisaki Hana: Um… Well… something you started? Ah! Well, during this self-restraint period…after reading the book “See you, Family” that I introduced a little while ago, I started reading a bit more.Up until then I really didn’t read at all, I would read maybe one book a year, but then I realized that reading words can be fun too…
There’s a book called “You Shouldn’t Let Me Go Hungry” by Kudo Rei. It was a book that I was given as a gift by an acquaintance a while ago. I’d read it before, but when I read it again I found it really good.
The book is a small novel like an essay in which Kudo Rei writes a diary about food every day, and it’s really good…it’s just that. When I read it…it makes me hungry, and it makes me feel like food is precious to me. I thought it was the best, and from then on I started buying quite a lot of books about food.
No, it’s just that. It’s just like that.
Food…I love everything to do with food…(laughs).
In fact, I’ve even started reading books…really.
Um…I’m really enjoying my time with food. Yes (laughs).
