On the 19/7/2020 (Sun) broadcast of the TOKYO FM radio program “Sugisaki Hana’s Flower TOKYO” (every Sunday from 8:00 to 8:30).
Sugisaki Hana answered a listener’s question, “How do you balance your work and private life?”
Sugisaki Hana: 23 years old, Tokyo, radio name “Shampoo Pump”.
Listener email: Hello, Ohana-chan.
Sugisaki Hana: Hello.
Listener email: I started listening to the radio in April, and this is the first time I’ve written a message.
Sugisaki Hana: Thank you.
Listener email: Recently, I’ve been thinking about work even after work and on my days off, and I can’t relax. How do you balance your work and private life, Ohana-chan?
Please tell me if you have any tips for getting motivated in your own way.
Sugisaki Hana: Hmm. But I totally get it. I can’t relax because I’m always thinking about work. When I was rehearsing for the stage play, I couldn’t sleep every night either… So I totally understand.
But at that time… during rehearsals and even recently, Namase Katsuhisa gave me great advice. The other day he sent me an email saying “Good luck with the morning drama,” and he also wrote the same thing: “You’ll never find the answer if you think about it too much before you go to sleep. So think about it after you wake up.” He told me, “Good things can only come from a healthy body.” I replied to Namase by saying I’ll “take those words to heart”… I really want to cherish those words.
…I think a lot before I go to sleep. “I wonder if I should have done this at that time,” or “What should I do if this happens,” or whatever. I often find myself thinking and thinking and not being able to sleep… So I end up not getting enough sleep, and I often think to myself that it’s not good to go to work the next day, so I really want to take Namase-san’s words to heart…in my own mind.
Ah, the balance…how to get motivated. I wonder…
Ah. I slack off as much as I can once (laughs).
After that, I try to concentrate and do what I have to do.
For example, when I go on a diet, if I decide to start tomorrow, I’ll eat a lot until then…(laughs).
And, well…it might not be such a good thing, but by doing that, I think to myself, “I can do it now!” It makes me feel like, “I’ve slacked off so much that I can’t turn back, so I have no choice but to do it,” and I can do my best.
…Maybe that’s my own way of “getting motivated”.
