Sugisaki Hana: 13 years old, Okayama Prefecture, radio name “My mom calls me Nanapoko”.

Listener email: Good morning, Ohana-chan.

Sugisaki Hana: Good morning.

Listener email: I’ve loved Ohana-chan since “Toto Nee-chan” and I’m a middle school second grader who is obsessed with “Hana Yori Dango”. This may be sudden, but do you have dreams (the sleeping kind)?

I often have dreams when I go back to sleep.

Sugisaki Hana: Wow! I wonder why that is?

Listener email: The other day I had a dream that really made me cry. I was so engrossed in the dream that I didn’t shed any tears in reality, but I was sobbing. I was surprised when I woke up.

Do you often have dreams, Ohana? What kind of dreams have you had recently?
Please let me know.

Sugisaki Hana: Um… “dreams”?
But you know, in “dreams”… don’t you think you see the things you were thinking about before you went to sleep?
Also, a friend told me the other day that in “dreams,” while you’re sleeping, you sort of “organize” your memory of “what you need” and “what you don’t need”… and that’s why you see them. That’s amazing, isn’t it!

Also, you know… When I was in middle school, a friend of mine said that if you do calculations in your dreams… any calculations will do, but she said that you’ll “become a genius.” My friend said (laughs).
…I’ve never done calculations though. Apparently you can become a genius…(laughs).

But it’s true that when it comes to dreams, it’s really unpleasant to have sad or scary dreams.
I’m really traumatized by it. I don’t like scary dreams or emotional dreams… well, I’m not good with emotional dreams that make me cry, I just hate dreams that make me cry… How long ago was it, maybe about 5 years ago…?
I really hated it so much that before I went to sleep, I started praying in my mind, “May I have happy dreams today, and not scary or emotional or sad dreams,” and this has become my daily routine… (laughs).

But there are conditions. If it’s for the sake of “making my family live longer” or “not getting hurt”… I say to myself that if I use the power to achieve that, then it’s okay to have scary dreams.
So on the days when I have scary dreams, I try to think to myself, “I guess the power was used to make good things happen” (laughs).

But when it comes to dreams, I remember what happened just before I woke up… but don’t I forget them right away?
This is something I heard from a friend, too… I’ve heard a lot of stories from friends (laughs).
Apparently, if you keep a diary of the dreams you have every day, you’ll go crazy. That’s what they say, right?
They say it’s dangerous because you won’t know what’s real and what’s not…
I was a bit curious about it and thought, “Maybe I should keep a diary,” but I was too scared so I gave up (laughs).

“Dreams” are kind of interesting, aren’t they?
