Honda Hitomi: Now, this is from Kichana, who lives in Saitama Prefecture.

Listener email: Hii-chan, hello. Happy birthday.

Actually, I also had my 20th birthday last month.

I feel like I’ve become more of an adult since I turned 20.

Hii-chan, you are an adult in Korea, but are there any moments when you feel like you’ve become an adult?

I’d like to know.

Honda Hitomi: So, oh, Kichana-san, happy birthday too.

Well, actually, I, well, actually, Korea and Japan have different ways of counting age, and in Japan, you add another year on your birthday. But in Korea, everyone turns a year on January 1st. So I was born in 2001, and on January 1st this year (2020) I turned 20 in Korea.

I guess the moment you feel like you’ve become an adult is when you can eat things that you used to hate.
When I was a kid I really didn’t like eggplant, but now I love it, and actually I never liked cheese either. That’s surprising, isn’t it?
But now it’s my favorite food, and when I start to like things that I used to hate, I feel like I’ve become an adult. Yes.
