On the September 20, 2020 (Sunday) broadcast of the TOKYO FM radio program “Sugisaki Hana’s Flower TOKYO” (every Sunday from 8:00 to 8:30).
Sugisaki Hana answered a listener’s question, “Are there any seasonal dishes that you enjoy?”
Sugisaki Hana: 32 years old, Tokyo, radio name “Tantakatan”.
Listener email: Good morning, Ohana.
Sugisaki Hana: Good morning.
Listener email: It’s the season for delicious pears. Do you like pears, Ohana?
Sugisaki Hana: I love them. They’re delicious, aren’t they?
Listener email: I love eating pears in general, but I also love “pear cheese toast,” which is made by lining a slice of bread with thinly sliced pears and topping it with cheese.
It’s sweet, juicy, and a little salty, and it’s the best.
I only eat it at this time of year, so it feels special and I look forward to it every year.
Please tell us if you have any seasonal breakfasts that you enjoy.
Sugisaki Hana: Ah, “Pear cheese toast”! … I’ve never heard of it before.
So there’s a dish like that… I’ve never tried it.
A seasonal breakfast… maybe not.
But it’s kind of nice… definitely. You can only eat it during this season… Ah! Yes, there is. Yes, there is. In autumn, you have things like “takikomi gohan” (rice cooked with seasoning), right? Yes, there is (laughs).
But it’s true… pears are delicious. When I go back to Tokyo in between filming, my mother peels pears and waits for me… it makes me so happy and cheers me up (laughs).
I wonder what “pear cheese toast” is like? You bake the pears as well, right?
Rather than being “crispy”, I guess it’s more like a “juicy” texture… like that.
Cheese and sweet things definitely go well together. Like cheese pizza with honey, or cheesecake. I love that kind of thing too, so maybe I’d like it….
I just thought, “I’d like to try it” (lol).
Thank you, “Tantakatan”, for your message.
