On the 8th November 2020 (Sun) broadcast of the TOKYO FM radio program “Flower TOKYO by Sugisaki Hana” (every Sunday from 8:00 to 8:30).
Sugisaki Hana: Okay, so I’d like to read this email last.
24 years old, Kochi Prefecture, radio name Connie.
Listener email: Good morning, Ohana-chan.
Sorry to start the morning with a love story.
Sugisaki Hana: What are you talking about~ (laughs)
Listener email: The other day I went on a date to the park with the guy I like.
I made a bento lunch at the time. I’d never done anything like that in my life, so I was really nervous, but I think he was happy.
But I’m really worried about the tamagoyaki.
Don’t tamagoyaki taste a lot like homemade food, like sweet or with a lot of broth?
I wonder if the taste of my homemade food was the same as his?
We haven’t fully started dating yet, so I can’t ask about that, and I’ve been secretly worried about it ever since the day we went on the date.
What do your homemade tamagoyaki taste like?
Sugisaki Hana: Oh… (laughs)
What a heart-fluttering email.
That’s nice, sounds fun. That’s nice (laughs)
Eh, but… I mean, if you’re going on a date with someone like that, you must like them too, Connie-san.
For me, for example, my homemade tamagoyaki is on the sweet side, but even if it’s on the sweet side, I wouldn’t think anything of it if the other person made it salty. I’d be so happy.
I’d be so happy, and wouldn’t it be nice to know, “Oh, they like it salty”?
I’d be so happy if they made it for me.
You’re probably worrying too much now (laughs)
But it’s true, everyone really does know the taste of homemade tamagoyaki.
I wonder if people in Kansai tend to make it salty, Kansai style.
As I said earlier, my family’s tamagoyaki is on the sweet side, but when I tried it for the first time in Kansai, I was shocked by how salty it was.
But then I realized there were delicious tamagoyaki out there.
I like both, but sometimes I make sweet ones, and sometimes I make salty ones.
When I make salty ones, I like to add green laver.
It’s really tasty, the smell.
That’s nice…
But if you’re curious about that, why not just ask?
“Which one? Which do you prefer?” (laughs)
That’s nice, it’s bound to be fun just having that conversation (laughs)
I can really imagine how fun it must be, and I thought it was kind of nice (laughs)
Konii-san, have fun on our next date too.
If there’s any progress, please let me know.
